Melania Targeted by Baltimore Liberals
First Lady Melania Trump spoke at the Baltimore Youth Summit on Opioid Awareness on Tuesday, Nov. 26th and received a negative reaction from some of the students present.
The summit, which is sponsored by the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation, brought more than a thousand middle and high school students together at the University of Maryland to hear people speak about the dangers of opioid addiction.
As part of her Be Best initiative, which focuses on children standing strong in the face of online safety and opioid abuse, Melania was a key speaker at the event.
As soon as Jim Wahlberg introduced the first lady, there was a mixture of people cheering and booing.
Once on stage, Melania was not noticeably concerned about the boos coming from the crowd. She started her speech by saying:
“This is an issue that has impacted many lives in your community. I hope that the knowledge you gain here will help you tackle the tough decisions you may face so that you can lead healthy and drug-free lives.”
Mrs. Trump spoke a lot about her Be Best Initiative in the 6-minute speech, letting the audience know what she hopes for them to take away from her part of the event.
“I have used ‘Be Best’ to shine a light on programs like these that show what it means to ‘Be Best. Whether it be showing a simple act of kindness, providing care where there is a need, or teaching something valuable, this initiative promotes the positive actions happening in our communities and around the globe.”
After she was finished speaking, the first lady received a lot of applause, but also some very loud boos.
Taking the High Road
Just like she has done many times in the past, Mrs. Trump didn’t get upset or annoyed by the students who felt a need to be disrespectful during her speech, instead, she took the high road and defended them.
Hours after the event she released a statement, saying:
“We live in a democracy and everyone is entitled to their opinion, but the fact is we have a serious crisis in our country and I remain committed to educating children on the dangers and deadly consequences of drug abuse.”
While this classy behavior isn’t surprising coming from Melania, it’s always refreshing. Hopefully, it can show some of those students that you can disagree with someone but still be respectful. Because they obviously aren’t learning that from the other adults in their lives.
